Family Law

Family Law matters often involves a great deal of emotion, trauma and conflict. If you are involved in an Illinois family law case in DuPage County, Will County, Kendall County or Grundy County, you need to seek counsel from a skilled, experienced family law attorney who understands these issues and can help you protect your rights.

At The Law Offices of Robert F. Kramer, Ltd., we have experience with all types of family law cases, including:

Paternity

Before a mother can collect child support, the paternity of the child must be established under Illinois law. The establishment of paternity is also required before a father can pursue visitation rights or custody. If paternity was not established by marriage, it may be established through voluntary acknowledgement of both parents or through court proceedings. Contact us to learn more.

Custody

When a child’s parents don’t live together, formal custody and visitation arrangements are often necessary in order to ensure the safety and well-being of the child as well as  to protect the rights of the parents. These orders determine where the child will reside and when he or she will visit the other parent’s home. Child custody arrangements are made based upon the child’s best interests. Legal custody, which determines who can make decisions for the child, must also be established.

Child Support

In most cases, Illinois law requires the noncustodial parent to pay child support to the custodial parent. This amount will be determined based upon the parents’ income and the child’s needs. Child support orders can be modified if circumstances change. If the noncustodial parent fails to make the necessary child support payments, the custodial parent can take legal action to collect.

Guardianship

Guardianship arrangements allow an adult to take legal responsibility for a minor that is not his or her legal child. These arrangements are also used when an adult needs to assume legal responsibility for another adult who is disabled or otherwise unable to care for him or herself.
